Soldiers use the soldier sleeping position when on extended missions, such as in Iraq. The position is preferred because it is similar to lying in the prone position. How does the soldier sleeping position differ from other sleeping positions? When someone is lying in the prone position, their arms are hanging down straight beside their body, and they face the ground with their toes pointed forward and head tilted back. The soldier sleeping position is slightly different. To be sure, soldiers do the same thing, but the soldier’s arms are supposed to be perpendicular to their body and their heads are positioned lower, with their necks extended.
